The author studies the initial value problem of the following quasilinear parabolic equation \[ \partial_ tn=d\partial_ x(n^{-1}\partial_ xn);\quad n(x,0)=n_ 0(x),\quad -\infty <x<\infty,\quad t>0, \] \[ \lim_{x\to -\infty}n(x,t)^{-1}\partial_ xn(x,t)=c,\quad \lim_{x\to +\infty}n(x,t)=0,\quad t>0, \] where n is a positive unknown function. This equation describes several physical situations in various fields of science, the typical cases of which are the gas kinetics in fluid dynamical limit and the cross field convection of plasma. It has been dealt with also mathematically by other people in different situations (see the references). The author establishes the local-in-time existence, uniqueness and the well-posedness. By this, he constructs a local monotone dynamical system.
