The paper considers an isotropic elastic wave equation with 0 Dirichlet boundary data in an exterior domain \(\Omega\) of \({\mathbb{R}}^ 3\), the boundary \(\partial \Omega\) being smooth and compact. It is the purpose of the paper to study singularities of the scattering kernel, corresponding to the so called mode-conversion for the reflected waves. It is shown that the singularity of the scattering kernel is determined by the symmetry of the boundary \(\partial \Omega\) near the points where incident plane waves hit \(\partial \Omega\) perpendicularly. The proof of the results is based on the representation of the scattering kernel obtained by one of the authors.
