The authors propose an approximation method for solving moving boundary problems in one dimension based on the method of moments originally suggested by M. Fujita [cf. \textit{J. Crank}, The mathematics of diffusion (1956; Zbl 0071.414)]. The numerical results from the present method are compared with other approximation methods. The superiority of the present method is shown through a test problem whose analytical solution is known.
