A survey of Japanese publications on the history of Japanese traditional mathematics (wasan) from the last 30 years (Q809057)

Modern Japanese scholars of wasan have produced a considerable number of monographs and articles of high academic level, but they are not known to the Western readers simply because of language barrier. Those few papers written in Western languages do not always reflect the level of Japanese scholarship. Thus knowledge of Japanese language is essential for the study of wasan. This paper provides a succinct and very useful bibliographical information on the history of Japanese mathematics (wasan) published in Japanese language in the last 30 years. Let us hope that some of the important works mentioned in this survey be translated into Western languages. It is also hoped that Japanese scholars make effort to overcome the language barrier from their own side.
