They provide upper and lower solutions, \(\beta\) (x,\(\epsilon\)) and \(\alpha\) (x,\(\epsilon\)), exhibiting boundary layer and interior layer behavior, for which \(\lim_{\epsilon \to 0+}(\beta (x,\epsilon)-\alpha (x,\epsilon))=0,\) uniformly on I.
