Let \(B_{Q,\lambda}\) be the exponential box spline associated with \(\lambda \in {\mathbb{C}}^ n\) and an \(s\times n\) rational matrix Q. Denote by \(K(B_{Q,\lambda})\) the kernel space \[ K(B_{Q,\lambda}):=\{a:{\mathbb{Z}}^ s\mapsto C:\sum_{j\in {\mathbb{Z}}^ s}a(j)B_{Q,\lambda}(\cdot -j)=o\}. \] When \(K(B_{Q,\lambda})\) is the trivial space \(\{\) \(0\}\), then the integer translates of \(B_{Q,\lambda}\) are said to be linearly independent. In this paper two properties of the space \(K(B_{Q,\lambda})\) are studied in details. The author proves a sufficient condition for \(K(B_{Q,\lambda})\) to be the trivial space \(\{\) \(0\}\) and a sufficient condition for \(K(B_{Q,\lambda})\) to have finite dimension. The corresponding problems for polynomial box splines are treated in \textit{R. Jia} and \textit{N. Sivakumar} [Linear Algebra Appl. 135, 19-31 (1990; Zbl 0721.41020)] and in \textit{A. Ron} [Constructive Approximation 5, No.3, 297-308 (1989; Zbl 0667.41011)].
