Solutions with period 2 in time are investigated after discretization of Fisher's reaction-diffusion equation \((1)\quad \partial u/\partial t=\partial^ 2u/\partial x^ 2+u(1-u)\) common in mathematical biology. The strong aims of the paper are to show, firstly, that solutions of the discrete form of (1) \(U^{n+1}(x)=U^ n(x)+k(d^ 2U^ n(x)/dx^ 2)+kU^ n(x)(1-U^ n(x)),\) \(n=0,1,2,...\), satisfy a continuous Hamiltonian system in space, and secondly to solve the non-integrable Hamiltonian system numerically for large values of x (x is the space variable) by symplectic difference schemes (leap frog and staggered Euler A-II-1) preserving the Hamiltonian energy in long time calculation.
