Pasting and semimodular lattices (Q810070)

\textit{E. Fried} and the reviewer [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 106, 885-890 (1989; Zbl 0678.06005)] proved that the variety of all modular lattices is closed under the pasting of finite lattices. The present note generalizes this: The class of all semimodular lattices is closed under the pasting of finite lattices. The proof is very elegant; it is more general and much simpler than the original proof.
