Let A be a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra over a field k. It can happen that there are infinitely many R in \(A\otimes A\) such that (A,R) is quasitriangular. Here the author shows that there can be only finitely many such R if A is semisimple and k has characteristic 0, or if A is semisimple, cosemisimple and involutory with k of characteristic \(p>\dim A\). The proof is based on the author's recent result that in these cases, the group of Hopf algebra automorphisms of A is a finite group [Am. J. Math. 112, 331-357 (1990; Zbl 0699.16008)].
