This paper treats several different problems for identifying unknown ingredients (parameters or functions) in parabolic and hyperbolic partial differential equations of cylindrical geometry from overspecified boundary data. The unknown ingredients of interest include boundary parameters in a boundary condition and sources (or sinks) as well as coefficients in the differential equation itself. Explicit solutions for various problems are obtained and the existence of a solution for various others is discussed.
