Let \(C\) be a nonempty proper closed convex subset of a real Banach space \(X\). \(C\) is said to be nearly uniformly convex (NUC) (respectively, (NUC')) with a center \(a\in C\) if for every \(\varepsilon>0\), there exists a \(\delta\), \(1>\delta>0\), such that for every \(\varepsilon\)-separate sequence in \(C\), \[ \text{co}(x_ n)\cap(a+(1-\delta)(C-a))\neq\emptyset \qquad \text{(resp.,} \overline{\text{co}}(x_ n)\cap(a+(1-\delta)(C- a))\neq\emptyset\text{).} \] Kutzarova and Rolewicz proved if \(C_ 1\) and \(C_ 2\) are two bounded (NUC) sets with respect to their interior points, then \(C_ 1\cap C_ 2\), \(C_ 1+C_ 2\) and \(\text{co}(C_ 1,C_ 2)\) are (NUC) with respect to their interior. In the article, the authors proved that (1) Suppose \(C_ 1\) is a noncompact bounded (NUC) set (with respect to its interior), and \(C_ 2\) is an unbounded (NUC) set (with respect to its interior). Then \(C_ 1+C_ 2\) is not (NUC). (2) If \(C_ 1\) and \(C_ 2\) are (NUC) with respect to their interior, then \(\text{co}(C_ 1,C_ 2)\) is (NUC) with respect to its interior. Note: the first author showed there exists an unbounded (NUC) set in the Hilbert space.
