For \(\varepsilon,\delta\in(\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^g\), thought as vector spaces of zeros and ones, \(\tau\in\mathbb{H}_g\) (the Siegel upper half-space), and \(x\in\mathbb{C}^g\) one defines the theta-function with characteristic \([\varepsilon,\delta]\), \(\theta{\varepsilon\brack\delta}](\tau,z)\). A theta constant is the evaluation at \(z=0\) of a theta function. In case of genus 1 there are two formulas (identities) followed from the Jacobi's derivative formula written as a polynomial in theta constants and first-order derivatives, with result to \(z\), of theta functions. The authors of the paper under review generalize both these identities to higher genus. The main tool for the proof is Riemann's addition theorem. As a consequence they give a characterization of the locus of reducible principally polarized abelian variety in terms of vanishing of certain derivative of odd theta functions.
