The authors study Weyl's theorem and a-Weyl's theorem for bounded linear operators \(T\) on a complex Banach space \(X\) for which \[ H_0(T-\lambda):=\Bigl\{x\in X:\lim_{n\to+\infty}\| (T-\lambda)^nx\| ^{\frac{1}{n}}=0\Bigr\}=\ker(T-\lambda) \] for all \(\lambda\in\mathbb{C}.\) They also study these theorems for multipliers of commutative Banach algebras and show, in particular, that if \(G\) is a locally compact abelian group, then every convolution operator on the group algebra \(L^{1}(G)\) satisfies a-Weyl's theorem. Similar results have been proved independently by \textit{M.~Oudghiri} [Stud.\ Math.\ 163, No.~1, 85--101 (2004; Zbl 1064.47004)] for Banach space operators \(T\) for which there is a function \(p:\mathbb{C}\to\mathbb{Z}^+\) such that \[ H_0(T-\lambda)=\ker(T-\lambda)^{p(\lambda)} \] for all \(\lambda\in\mathbb{C}.\) The class of operators having this property contains the hyponormal operators, \(p\)-hyponormal operators, \(\log\)-hyponormal operators and, more generally, subscalar Banach space operators. For related results, the interested reader should consult, for example, the first author's monograph [``Fredholm and local spectral theory, with application to multipliers'' (Kluwer, Dordrecht) (2004; Zbl 1077.47001)] and his recent paper [Stud.\ Math.\ 169, No.~2, 105--122 (2005; Zbl 1071.47001)].
