Let \(T\) be a bounded linear operator on a separable complex Banach space \(X\), let \(\sigma_p(T)\) denote its point spectrum and let \(\mathbb{T}\) be the complex unit circle. The first main result of the paper states that if \(\sup_{k\geq 1}\| T^{n_k}\| < \infty\), where \((n_k)\) is an increasing sequence of positive integers, then \(\sigma_p(T) \cap \mathbb{T}\) is of Lebesgue measure zero. The second main result shows that, under the same hypotheses, if \[ P:= \liminf_{k \to \infty} n_{k+1}/n_k >1 \quad \text{ and } \quad Q:= \liminf_{k \to \infty} n_k^{1/k} < \infty, \] then \(\sigma_p(T) \cap \mathbb{T}\) is of Hausdorff dimension at most \(1- (\log P/\log Q)\). In what follows, the authors prove that if \(\sup_{k\geq 1}\| T^{n_k}\| < \infty\), where \((n_k)\) is an increasing sequence of positive integers with \((n_{k+1}/n_k)\) bounded, then \(\sigma_p(T) \cap \mathbb{T}\) is countable. The proofs of the main theorems are interesting and the authors motivate their results with convincing examples. Finally, they provide some applications for the case of \(C_0\)-semigroups.
