The authors consider two-dimensional standing gravity waves on the surface of an infinitely deep perfect fluid, the flow being potential. The linearized problem is completely resonant, because the kernel of the linearized operator is infinite-dimensional. Following the method in a previous article of the authors [J. Math. Fluid Mech. 7, Suppl. 1, S110--S126 (2005; Zbl 1065.35051)], where they investigated unimodal standing waves, they prove the existence of an infinity of multi-modal standing gravity waves, corresponding to any choice of asymptotic expansion in powers of the amplitude \(\varepsilon\). Each one of these solutions exists for a set of values \(\varepsilon\) being dense in zero. The completely resonant kernel and the small divisor problem, which arises in the complement of the kernel, require very sophisticated methods, which are presented in a quite compact form in this very interesting paper.
