Let \(K\) be a compact set in \(\mathbb R^n \) and let \(W\) be the class of measures given by \[ W= \{ \mu: d\mu=w d \lambda,\;w\in L^\infty (K), \text{essinf}\;w >0\}, \] with \(\lambda\) be the Lebesgue measure on \(K.\) \(U\) is a subspace of \(C(K).\) We say that \(U\) is a unicity space for \(C_1(K, \mu), \mu\in W,\) if for each \(f\in C(K)\) there exists the unique best approximation from \(U\) in the norm of the space \(L_1(K,\mu).\) A detailed survey of the corresponding results has been given in the monograph of \textit{A. Pinkus} [On \(L_1\)-approximation. Cambridge Tracts in Mathematics, 93. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (1989; Zbl 0679.41022)]. However for the case \(C_T\) (continuous \(T\)-periodic functions on \(\mathbb R\)) the mentioned results cannot be applied. This case was studied by the author [J. Approx. Theory 123, No. 1, 89--109 (2003; Zbl 1020.41016)]. One can see some simpler characterization in the reviewed paper. Zero sets of functions \(u\in U\) are important to formulate the results. The cases of odd and even dimensions of \(U\) are considered separately.
