Let \(A\) and \(B\) be arbitrary non-empty sets on the complex plane \({\mathbb C}\) and \({\mathcal P}_n(B)\) denote the set of all monic polynomials of exact degree \(n\) with all zeros in \(B\). The following generalization of the logarithmic capacity is introduced: \[ \delta_n(\mu, A, B) := \sup_{p_n\in {\mathcal P}_n(B)} \inf_{z\in A} \left\{U^{\mu}(z) - U^{\nu_{p_n}}(z)\right\}, \] where \(\mu\) is the unit measure, \(U^{\mu}(z)\) is the logarithmic potential of \(\mu\). It is shown that for each unit measure \(\mu\) on the boundary \(\partial G\) of a bounded domain \(G\) \[ \lim_{n\rightarrow \infty} \delta_n(\mu, \partial G, G) = 0. \] An application to the inverse balayage problem is given.
