The authors look for conditions which guarantee that a quasiconformal mapping \(f\) between domains \(D\) and \(G\) in \(\mathbb R^n\) is uniformly continuous when \(D\) is equipped with the euclidean metric and \(G\) with with the internal distance. The internal distance in \(G\) means the infimum of the lengths of curves joining the points in \(G\). \textit{J. Becker} and \textit{C. Pommerenke} [Complex Variables, Theory Appl. 10, No. 4, 267--272 (1988; Zbl 0616.30013)] studied this problem in connection with conformal mappings and Hölder continuity. For quasiconformal mappings the uniform Hölder continuity was studied in [\textit{F. W. Gehring} and \textit{O. Martio}, Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Ser. A I, Math. 10, 203--219 (1985; Zbl 0584.30018)]. This involved a bound for the quasihyperbolic distance in \(D\) and the authors employ a more precise integral growth condition for this purpose. They also show that their condition is essentially sharp for the uniform continuity of \(f\).
