In this paper the author studies local isometric embeddings of surfaces with Gauss curvature \(K\) changing sign at a fixed order across a curve. The main result is Theorem 1.1: Suppose \(g\) is a \(C^r\) metric in a neighbourhood of the origin in \(\mathbb{R}^2\), with \(r\geq q+18\) for some integer \(r\) and odd integer \(q\geq 3\), and \(\Gamma\) is a geodesic through the origin. If \(K\) vanishes at order \(q\) along \(\Gamma\), then \(g\) admits a \(C^{r-q-11}\) local isometric embedding in \(\mathbb{R}^3\). To the author, the method in the paper appears more interesting than the established result. Main contributions consist of correcting linearized equations to make them solvable and studying symmetric semi-positive linear differential systems. These symmetric semi-positive linear systems can be considered as degenerate symmetric positive linear differential systems.
