Let \(\mathfrak{g}\) denote the Lie superalgebra \(\mathfrak{gl}_{m| n}\). This superalgebra admits a ``triangular decomposition'' \(\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{g}_{-1}\oplus\mathfrak{g}_0\oplus\mathfrak{g}_1\), where \(\mathfrak{g}_0\) is just the even part of \(\mathfrak{g}\), and \(\mathfrak{g}_{\pm 1}\) are nilpotent subalgebras, spanned by positive (resp. negative) odd root spaces. If \(L_{\lambda}\) is a simple finite-dimensional \(\mathfrak{g}_0\)-module with highest weight \(\lambda\), one can trivially extend this module to \(\mathfrak{g}_1\), and then induce the result up to \(\mathfrak{g}\). The obtained module \(V_{\lambda}\) is called the \textit{Kac module}. It is know that \(V_{\lambda}\) is irreducible if and only if \(\lambda\) is typical. In the paper under review the author explicitly determines the composition factors of Kac modules for atypical \(\lambda\) and their multiplicities, which turn out to be simple (i.e. \(0\) or \(1\)), by proving a conjecture about these factors from [\textit{J. W. B. Hughes, R. C. King} and \textit{J. van der Jeugt}, J. Math. Phys. 33, No. 2, 470--491 (1992; Zbl 0747.17003)].
