Many evolutionary equations are known to possess a finite-dimensional attractive Lipschitzian invariant manifold -- a so-called inertial manifold. Nevertheless, the existence of such a manifold is still an open problem for the \(2\)D Navier-Stokes equation (NSE). This interesting note is related to the above problem as follows: By means of the \textit{M. Kwak} transformation [see Indiana Univ.\ Math.\ J.\ 41, No.\ 4, 927--981 (1992; Zbl 0765.35034)] one can transform the NSE into a system of reaction-diffusion equations with algebraic nonlinearity. For a similar reaction-diffusion equation with a second order differential term off the diagonal, however not for the one obtained from the NSE, the authors prove the existence of an inertial manifold. This is achieved using the Lyapunov-Perron approach.
