Let \(L=\sum_{j=1}^n(-{\partial^2/\partial\xi_j^2}+\xi_j^2)\) be the harmonic oscillator on \(\mathbb{R}^n,\) with the associated Riesz transforms \(R_{2j-1}=\partial/\partial\xi_j L^{-1/2}\) and \(R_{2j}=\xi_j L^{-1/2},\) \(j=1,...,n.\) The main subject of the paper is the two-sided estimate \[ C_1 \| f\| \leq \left\| \left(\sum_{k=1}^{2n}| R_k(f)| ^2\right)^{1/2}\right\| \leq C_2 \| f\| , \] where the norms are those in \(L^p(\mathbb R^n)\) for ``good'' functions \(f\) and the constants depend only on \(p\) and not on \(n.\) The result is known and is due to \textit{E. Harboure, L. de Rosa, C. Segovia} and \textit{J. L. Torrea} [Math. Ann. 328, No.~4, 653--682 (2004; Zbl 1061.42008)], but in the paper under review a shorter proof is given. By factorization of the Riesz transforms the proof is reduced to that for the Heisenberg groups already obtained by the author. By induction and the obtained result a similar upper estimate is proved for the iterated Riesz transforms \(R_{k_1}R_{k_2}...R_{k_s},\) \(1\leq k_1, k_2,..., k_s\leq 2n,\) with a constant depending on \(p\) and \(s\) and independent of \(n.\)
