The book is written in a plain and clear style and gives in 17 chapters a self-contained comprehensive introduction to quantum mechanics, arising in fact from the transcription of lecture notes for a two semesters course on quantum mechanics. The attention is mainly devoted to applications; in fact major space is devoted to perturbation theory, and in particular the WKB method, as well as to scattering theory. All calculations are worked out in great detail and quite a few interesting examples are dealt with at the end of the different chapters. A brief review of classical mechanics opens the book, followed by a chapter with a very short presentation of the mathematical tools needed by the reader to work his way through the book. In the following 13 chapters the essential topics for an introduction to quantum mechanics are dealt with, together with a few other topics such as the dynamical symmetry in hydrogen atom and the treatment of the three-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator in spherical coordinates; the book ends up with two chapters on relativistic one particle equations and the path integral approach to quantum mechanics. A succinct index closes the book.
