The paper under review studies the problem of minimizing \(| q\alpha - \beta - p| \) where \(\alpha\) is an irrational number, \(\beta\) is a real number and \(p,q\) are integers with \(q>0\). Many algorithms related to this problem have been proposed. The algorithm proposed by \textit{K. Nishioka, I. Shiokawa} and \textit{J. Tamura} [J. Number Theory 42, No. 1, 61--87 (1992; Zbl 0770.11039)] has been investigated by T. Komatsu, who obtained the value \[ \lim \inf _{q\to\infty} q | q\alpha - \beta -p| \] in some cases, and determined all eventually periodic points, but not all purely periodic points. Here a variation of the Nishioka-Shiokawa-Tamura algorithm is proposed, efficient in determining the best solutions for the inhomogeneous Diophantine approximation and having a natural extension suitable to determine all purely periodic points. If \((\alpha,\beta)\) is a purely periodic point, the author obtains a relation between \[ \lim \inf _{q\to\infty} q | q\alpha - \beta -p| \] and the natural extension of his algorithm.
