The main purpose is to present various facets of unsteady very slow fluid and gas flows at a low Mach number, which are called ``hyposonic``. Very slow hyposonic flows are mainly linked to the fluid dynamics of terrestrial environment. Namely, slightly compressible unsteady external and internal aerodynamics, combustion, nonlinear acoustics, slow atmospheric motions and thermal convection are important parts of the general subject area related to hyposonic flow theory. This book gives essentially an analytical view of hyposonic flows which allows the approach to various practical problems in combustion theory, in road and rail traffic aerodynamics and in meteorology. Approximate rational models are derived for low-Mach number cases to provide both insight into the underlying physics as well as benchmarks for numerical simulations and computations.
