Let \(\gamma\) be a formal variable and \(C_{\gamma}\) the ring of Laurent polynomials in two noncommuting variables \(x,y\) with \(xy = \gamma^2yx\). Let \(L = \text{sl}_2(C_{\gamma})\). Then the universal enveloping algebra, \(U(L)\) has a triangular decomposition \(U(\L) \cong U(N_-) \otimes U(H) \otimes U(N_+)\). In an earlier paper, the author studied quotients of \(U(H)\) by certain ideals \(I_N\) indexed by non-negative integers [Osaka J. Math. 41, No. 2, 295--326 (2004; Zbl 1138.17308)]. Here, the author derives \(q\)-analogues of the earlier results. In this case there are some quantum technicalities, but it turns out that the quotient algebras are isomorphic to direct sums of tensor products of symmetric Laurent polynomials and Macdonald's difference operators.
