A retractional skeleton (\textit{r}-skeleton, for short) on a topological space \(X\) is a family of retractions \(\{r_s: s\in\Gamma\}\) indexed by a \(\sigma\)-complete up-directed partially ordered set \(\Gamma\), satisfying \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] \(r_s(X)\) is a cosmic space, for each \(s\in \Gamma\); \item[(ii)] \(r_s=r_s\circ r_t=r_t \circ r_s\), whenever \(s\leq t\); \item[(iii)] if \((s_n)_{n<\omega}\subseteq \Gamma\) is an increasing sequence and \(s=\sup\{s_n: n<\omega\}\), then \(r_s(x)=\lim_{n\to \infty}r_{s_n}(x)\) for each \(x\in X\); \item[(iv)] for each \(x\in X\), \(x=\lim_{s\in\Gamma}r_s(x)\). \end{itemize} In the paper under review the authors contribute to the study of the class of compact spaces having an \textit{r}-skeleton. The results obtained by the authors are contained in the last three sections. In the third section zero-dimensional spaces are studied. It is proved that a zero-dimensional compact space, admitting an \textit{r}-skeleton \(\{r_s: s\in\Gamma\}\) such that \(|r_s(X)|<\omega\) for every \(s\in\Gamma\), has a dense subset consisting of isolated points (Corollary 3.4). The fourth section is addressed to the Alexandroff duplicate of a topological space \(X\) (denoted by \(AD(X)\)). In Theorem 4.5, the main result of the section, it is proved that \(AD(X)\) admits an \textit{r}-skeleton if and only if \(X\) admits an \textit{r}-skeleton satisfying some additional properties. In the last section the definition of \(\pi\)-skeleton is introduced. It turns out that the class of compact spaces admitting an \textit{r}-skeleton coincides with the class of compact spaces which admit a \(\pi\)-skeleton (Theorem 5.9). This characterization provides a new argument for proving that the class of compact spaces with an \textit{r}-skeleton is closed under arbitrary products.
