Let \(\mathscr{A}\) be an algebra, a triple of linear maps \((d_1,d_2,d_3)\) of \(\mathscr{A}\) is a ternary derivation of \(\mathscr{A}\) if \(d_1(xy) = d_2(x)y + xd_3(y)\), for all \(x,y\in \mathscr{A}\). Clearly, if \(d_1 = d_2 = d_3\), then \(d_1\) is a derivation of \(\mathscr{A}\). In this article, the authors emphasised on ternary derivations and ternary automorphisms of triangular algebras. First, they demonstrated that every ternary automorphism of an arbitrary algebra \(\mathscr{A}\) is of the form \((R_yL_x\sigma, L_x\sigma, R_y\sigma)\) for \(\sigma\) an automorphism of \(\mathscr{A}\) and \(x, y\) invertible elements of \(\mathscr{A}\); a description of ternary derivations of \(\mathscr{A}\) is derived. Then, they presented the relationship between the components of a ternary derivation and also established the characterization of the ternary derivation. Finally, they discussed a new class of automorphisms of triangular algebras that preserve idempotent.
