    Let \(F\) be a finite extension of \(\mathbb{Q}\), and let \(F_{\infty} = F \otimes_{\mathbb{Q}} \mathbb{R}\). Let \(Z_{\infty}\) denote the center of \(\mathrm{GL}_2 (F_{\infty})\), let \(K_f\) be a compact open subgroup of \(\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{A}_f)\) and let \[ X = \mathrm{GL}_2 (F) \setminus \mathrm{GL}_2 (\mathbb{A}) / K_f Z_{\infty}.\] We denote by \(r_1\) the number of real embeddings and by \(2 r_2\) the number of complex ones. For an \((r_1 + r_2)\)-tuple \(\mathbf{d} = (d_1, \ldots, d_{r_1 + r_2})\) of positive even integers, we denote by \(S_\mathbf{d} (K_f)\) the space of cusp forms on \(X\) of the cohomological type with weight \(\mathbf{d}\). In the paper under the review, the author studies the asymptotic behavior of the dimension of \(S_\mathbf{d} (K_f)\) when \(K_f\) is fixed and \(\mathbf{d}\) varies. The main result of the paper states that for not totally real \(F\), a weight \(\mathbf{d} = (d, \ldots, d)\) such that \(d \geq 2\), and a fixed \(K_f\) we have \[\mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{C}} S_\mathbf{d} (K_f) \ll_{\varepsilon, K_f} d^{r - \frac{1}{2} + \varepsilon}.\] For a quadratic imaginary \(F\), this results provides a saving by a power of \(d^{\frac{1}{6}}\).
