The authors study SH waves in a thin functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) layer overlying an elastic half-space. Both layer and substrate are assumed to be transversely isotropic. WKB method is used, and dispersion relation and surface/interface effects are obtained for the SH waves. Some numerical examples to obtain graphical representation of the dispersion curves have been employed. It is concluded that the phase velocity reduces as surface/interface characteristic length increases for all modes. The surface/interface effect on electric potential, stress and displacement is more significant for higher modes. The effect of inhomogeneity is found to be more apparent in the overlying thin layer.
