The authors investigate two problems concerning the interaction of a screw dislocation in a hexagonal piezoelectric half-plane exhibiting 6 mm symmetry, with a traction-free, periodic cycloid rough surface. The medium is subjected to uniform remote anti-plane mechanical and in-plane electrical loading. In complex variable formulation, expressions for the basic unknowns of the problem are given for a poling direction along the axis of symmetry. The work is divided into two main parts. First, the authors examine the case of a charge-free surface, then the conducting surface is considered. For both cases, closed-form solutions are obtained. Explicit expressions for the stresses, electric displacements, strains and electric fields in both the corresponding Cartesian and the curvilinear coordinate systems are determined. The image force acting on the screw dislocation is obtained using the generalized Peach-Koehler formula. Comparison is carried out between the two cases. For a cusped cycloid surface, the stresses, electric displacements, strains and electric fields exhibit the square root singularity at the cusp tips. The resultant stress and electric displacement intensity factors at the cusp tips and crack extension force on the cusp tips are presented, as well as the energetic force (or crack extension force) on the cusp tips. Results for the purely elastic case are retrieved.
