The authors study the Navier-Stokes system with modified dissipativity \(-(-\Delta)^\alpha\) in the whole space \(\mathbb R^3\). For any divergence free initial data in \(H^\delta\) there exists an \(\varepsilon>0\) depending on the norm of this data such that the solution of the system with \(\alpha\in(\frac54-\varepsilon,\frac54]\) is global-in-time, unique and smooth. Moreover, it is shown that there is an open set in \(H^\frac54\times(\frac34,\frac54]\) of initial data and fractional dissipation orders that leads to global smooth solutions.
