The author considers the following operator \(H_\alpha = \big(h^{(\alpha)}_{n,m}\big)_{n,m\ge0}\) with \(h^{(\alpha)}_{n,m}=0\) if \(|n-m|>1\) and \[h^{(\alpha)}_{n,n} = 2n+1 + \alpha,\quad h^{(\alpha)}_{n,n+1} = h_{n+1,n}^{(\alpha)}= - \sqrt{(n+1)(n+1+\alpha)},\quad n\in {\mathbb Z}_{\ge0}.\] acting in \(\ell^2({\mathbb Z}_{\ge0})\). It is a special case of a self-adjoint Jacobi operator whose generalized eigenfunctions are precisely the Laguerre polynomials \(L_n^{(\alpha)}\). For the corresponding heat kernels \(e^{-tH_\alpha}\) explicit expression (with the help of Jacobi polynomials) is found. This enables to show that \(e^{-tH_\alpha}\) is ultracontractive and to compute the norms \(\|e^{-t H_\alpha}\|_{\ell^1(\sigma_\alpha)\to \ell^\infty(\sigma_\alpha^{-1})}\), where \(\sigma_\alpha(n):=\sqrt{L_n^{(\alpha)}(0)} = \binom{n+\alpha}{n}^{1/2}\). \par The explicit form of the heat kernel enables to characterize basic properties of the corresponding Markovian semigroup (recurrence, stochastic completeness). The paper under review contains also investigation of the perturbed operator \(H_{\alpha,V} = H_\alpha - V\), \(V\in \ell^2({\mathbb Z})\). The Cwiekel-Lieb-Rosenblum and the Bargmann estimates for \(H_{\alpha,V}\) are proved. \par In the final part of the paper, the author proves optimal Hardy inequality for the operator \(H_\alpha\).
