The authors extend to automorphisms of arbitrary prime order one of the main results of the paper [\textit{S. Rodrigues} and \textit{P. Shumyatsky}, Arch. Math. 113, No. 2, 113--118 (2019; Zbl 1444.20016)]. More specifically, the authors prove the following. Let \(G\) be a finite group that admits an automorphism \(\phi\) of prime order \(p\) and \((|G|,p) = 1\). Let \(G_{\phi}\) denote the set of elements of \(G\) fixed by \(\phi\) and let \(G_{-\phi}\) denote the set of elements of the form \(x^{-1}x^{\phi}\) for some \(x \in G\). Let \(e > 0\) be such that each element \(y \in G_{-\phi}\) is such that \(y^e = 1\). Let \(r\) be the rank of \(G_{\phi}\). Then the exponent of the commutator subgroup \([G,\phi]\) is bounded above by a function of \((e,p,r)\). Some further information on \(G\) is also obtained.
