The global reflector problem in a homogeneous nonisotropic medium is studied. The authors are mainly concerned with the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions to this global generalized reflector problem, also called as \(\Sigma\)-reflector problem. In the first part of the paper it is developed a general theory via paraboloid approximation and geometric arguments if \(\Sigma\) is \(C^1\) strictly convex. Next, by using the optimal mass transport method, it is reconsidered the global \(\Sigma\)-reflector problem if \(\Sigma\) is \(C^2\) strongly convex. The techniques used in this paper combine methods in convex analysis, variational tools, and the Fermat principle.
