A dg category (that is, a differential graded category) is a category enriched in the category of chain complexes of \(R\)-modules for some commutative ring~\(R\). The author has constructed a homotopy theory for these categories. Here he develops this theory by introducing Postnikov towers and \(k\)-invariants. He then shows that a functor into the homotopy category of an appropriate dg category can be lifted to the original category provided that certain obstruction classes vanish.
