Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with identity and \(T(R)\) be the total quotient ring of \(R\). It is known that \(R\) can be embedded in a zero-dimensional ring \(T\) if and only if there exists a family \(\{Q_{\lambda}\}\) of primary ideals of \(R\) with (1) \(\cap_{\lambda}Q_{\lambda} = (0)\) and (2) for each \(a \in R\), there exists a positive integer \(n_a\) such that \(a^{n_a} \not\in \cup_{\lambda}(P_{\lambda} - Q_{\lambda})\), where \(P_{\lambda} =\) rad\((Q_{\lambda})\) [\textit{M. Arapovic}, Glas. Mat., III. Ser. 18(38), 53--59 (1983; Zbl 0521.13005)]; hence, in this case, \(R\) has a unique minimal zero-dimensional extension that is contained in \(T\) [\textit{M. Arapovic}, Glas. Mat., III. Ser. 18(38), 47--52 (1983; Zbl 0519.13012)]. Let \(A\) be a commutative ring that does not necessarily have an identity. It is clear that if \(A\) is an \(R\)-module with \(a(rs) = (ar)s = r(as)\) for \(a \in R\) and \(r,s \in A\), then \(A^* = R \times A\) is an \(R\)-algebra with identity under \((r_1, a_1) + (r_2, a_2) = (r_1 + r_2, a_1+a_2)\) and \((r_1,a_1)(r_2, a_2) = (r_1r_2, r_1a_2+r_2a_1 +a_1a_2)\). In this paper under review, the author studies the structure of minimal zero-dimensional extensions of a one-dimensional ring \(R\) with noetherian spectrum in which zero is a primary ideal. Precisely, the author shows that if \(\mathcal{Q}\) is a set of ideals that are primary for distinct prime ideals such that \(\cap_{Q \in \mathcal{Q}}Q = (0)\), then \(T((\bigoplus_{Q \in \mathcal{M}}R/Q)^*)\) is a minimal zero-dimensional extension of \(R\), where \(\mathcal{M} = \{Q \in \mathcal{Q}|\) rad\((Q)\) is a maximal ideal of \(R\}\). The author also proves that there is a one-to-one correspondence between isomorphism classes of minimal zero-dimensional extensions of \(R\) and sets \(\mathcal{M}\) of primary ideals for distinct maximal ideals of \(R\).
