    The Dirichlet transform is defined for suitable functions \(f\) by \[ (Df)(x):=\frac{1}{\pi}\,\int_{-\infty}^{\infty}\frac{\sin(x-y)}{x-y}\,f(y)\,dy,\;\;x\in \mathbb{R}. \] The authors prove that for fixed \(p\), \(1<p<\infty\) and nonnegative measurable weight function \(w(x)\) on \(\mathbb{R}\), the inequality \[ \int_{\mathbb{R}}|(Df)(x)|^{p}\,w(x)\,dx\leq C_{p}^{p}\,\int_{\mathbb{R}}|f(y)|^{p}w(y)\,dy, \] with \(C_{p}>0\) independent of \(f\), holds if and only if there exists a constant \(K>0\) such that \[ \int_{I} w(x) \,dx\Big(\int_{I} w(x)^{-\frac{1}{p-1}}\,dx\Big)^{p-1}\leq K |I|^{p}, \] for all intervals \(I\subset \mathbb{R}\) with length \(|I|\geq \pi\).
