The authors study a certain intricate Cantor-like set on the unit interval. The main result shows that this set and its subset of dissipative points both have Hausdorff dimension equal to 1. The proof relies on the transience property of a certain non-symmetric Cauchy-type random walk. The authors conjecture that the Lebesgue measure of these sets is zero. The motivation for considering such subsets of the unit interval comes from the investigations in [\textit{J. R. Parker} and \textit{B. O. Stratmann}, Kodai Math. J. 24, No. 2, 169--206 (2001; Zbl 1005.30030)] of the geometry of limit sets of Kleinian groups with singly cusped parabolic dynamics.
