Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed field. Let \(T\) be the subgroup of diagonal matrices in \(\text{SL}_n(k)\) and let \(N\) be the normaliser of \(T\) in \(\text{SL}_n(k)\). Let \(G_{2,n}\) be the Grassmannian of \(2\)-dimensional subspaces of an \(n\)-dimensional vector space over \(k\). The authors give a stratification of the GIT quotient of \(G_{2,n}\) by \(N\) with respect to the ample generator of the Picard group of \(G_{2,n}\). Furthermore they show that the flag variety \(\text{GL}_n(k)/B_n(k)\) (\(B_n(k)\) consists of the upper triangular matrices in \(\text{GL}_n(k)\)) can be obtained as a GIT quotient of \(\text{GL}_{n+1}(k)/B_{n+1}(k)\) by \(T\) with respect to a suitable choice of ample line bundle on \(\text{GL}_{n+1}(k)/B_{n+1}(k)\). It seems that both results are obtained under the assumption on \(k\) made in Section~2, namely that the characteristic of \(k\) is either \(0\) or bigger than \(n\). Reviewer's remark: The statement about the Weyl group action in Corollary~5.4 is not clear to the present reviewer.
