A numerical simulation of the burning process of a single carbon particle in air at isobaric conditions is carried out. The governing equations are written in the Lagrangian coordinates for solid and gas phases with the spherical symmetry. The surface kinetics are modeled by the Arrhenius equation. The system of equations is discretized in the finite difference form where the time integration is performed by the linearly implicit extrapolation. It is observed that the particle diameter has a minor role in the burning rate and the process is predominantly diffusion controlled. The overestimation of the surface temperature may be examined by considering the nonlinear variation of the oxygen diffusion on the burning rate.
