The authors study the lens rigidity problem related to a compact Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) with boundary \(\partial M\). If \(SM\) stands for the unit tangent bundle, and \(\partial SM\) stands for the elements in \(SM\) with base point in \(\partial M\), the scattering relation identifies the first moment \(\mathcal L\) in time when a unit speed geodesic of \(M\) with initial speed pointing inwards the boundary, hits \(\partial M\) again. Trapped geodesics are exactly those where \({\mathcal L}=+\infty\). Given a bounded open subset \({\mathcal D}\subset \overline{B(\partial M)}\) (the unit ball tangent bundle), can the metric \(g\) be determined by the scattering relation? The authors show this to be true in some special situations, generalizing a result for simple metrics (i.e. \(\partial M\) strictly convex and \(\exp_x:\exp_x^{-1}(M)\to M\) a diffeomorphism for any \(x\in M\)) by \textit{M. Lassas, V. Sharafutdinov} and the second named author [Math. Ann. 325, No. 4, 767--793 (2003; Zbl 1331.53066)].
