The author gives a new proof of a result proved by the reviewer with the author and \textit{A.~P.~Rao} that on a general hypersurface in 4-space of degree at least six carries no non-split arithemetically Cohen-Macaulay bundles of rank two [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2007, No. 8, Article ID rnm025, 10 p. (2007; Zbl 1132.14040)]. Unlike the proof of the reviewer et. al. which was cohomological, here the author uses some old arguments of Green, Griffiths and Harris related to the Noether-Lefschetz theorem [see \textit{P. Griffiths} and \textit{J. Harris}, Math. Ann. 271, 31--51 (1985; Zbl 0552.14011)]. The author also shows that certain 1-cycles on a general quintic in 4-space are non-trivial in the Griffiths group.
