The paper studies existence and stability of stationary solutions to the one-dimensional Gierer-Meinhardt system \[ A_t=D_A A_{xx}-A+\frac{A^p}{H^q}, \;\;x\in (-1,1) \] \[ \tau H_t=D_H A_{xx} -H +\frac{A^m}{H^s}, \;\; x\in (-1,1) \] \[ A_x(\pm 1,t)=H_x(\pm 1,t)=0, \] in the case where the exponent \(p\), which corresponds to the reaction rate, is sufficiently large. In this regime, the authors prove the existence, and give asymptotic expressions for three types of statinary solutions: with an interior spike, with one boundary spike, and with two boundary spikes. The interior spike solution is proved to be unstable as a solution of the time-dependent system, the solution with one boundary spike is proved to be stable, while the solution with two boundary spike is proven to be stable or unstable according to the whether the ratio \(\frac{D_H}{D_A}\) is below or above a critical value, which is given explicitly.
