The Saito-Kurokawa lift is a Hecke-equivariant map from elliptic cusp forms to certain Siegel cusp forms of degree 2 such that the spin \(L\)-function of a form in the image decomposes into a product of more elementary \(L\)-functions in a certain way. Siegel cusp forms in the image are characterized by the property that their Fourier coefficients satisfy the Maaß\ relations. This lift has been extended to cusp forms of higher level and to Siegel cusp forms of even degree. The paper under review is another contribution to this area of research: The author defines a Saito-Kurokawa lift from holomorphic cusp forms of level \(N\), weight \(2k-2\) and nebentype \(\chi^2\) into the space \(S^2_k(\Gamma^2_0(N),\chi)\) of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms of degree 2, level \(N\), weight \(k\) and (Dirichlet) character \(\chi\). Then under certain technical conditions, Theorem 1 states: Let \(k>2\) and let \(f\in S^2_k(\Gamma^2_0(N), \chi)\) be a Hecke eigenfunction of \(T_p\) and \(T_{p^2}\) at primes \(p\nmid N\) and an eigenfunction of the Frobenius operators and their duals at primes \(p\mid N\). Then \(f\) is in the image of the Saito-Kurokawa lift if the Satake parameters of \(f\) satisfy \[ \alpha_{1p} \alpha_{2p}= p^{\pm 1}\quad\text{or}\quad\alpha_{1p} \alpha^{-1}_{2p}= p^{\pm 1}\quad\text{for }p\nmid N. \] Theorem 2 says: If \(f\) is as above and in the image of the form \(\phi\) of level \(N\), weight \(2k- 2\) and nebentype \(\chi^2\), then, for \(p\mid N\), the eigenvalue of the \(p\)th Frobenius operator on \(f\) and the eigenvalue of the \(p\)th Hecke operator on \(\phi\) coincide. There are various auxiliary results of independent interest.
