For a star body \(K\) in a finite dimensional real vector space \(V\), with a volume form \(\Omega\), and for \(-1<p\not= 0\), the \(L_p\)-intersection body of \(K\) is defined here as the star body \({\mathbb I}_pK\subset V^*\) with Minkowski functional \[ \|\xi\|_{{\mathbb I}_pK} =\left(\int_{\{x\in K: \,\xi\cdot x\geq0\}} (\xi\cdot x)^p\,\Omega\right)^{\frac{1}{p}},\qquad \xi\in V^*. \] Up to a normalization factor, \({\mathbb I}_pK\) coincides with the non-symmetric \(L_p\)-intersection body \(I^+_{-p}K\) introduced by \textit{C. Haberl} [Adv. Math. 217, No. 6, 2599--2624 (2008; Zbl 1140.52003)], and if \(K\) is centered, with the polar \(p\)-centroid body of \textit{R. J. Gardner} and \textit{A. A. Giannopoulos} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 48, No. 2, 593--613 (1999; Zbl 0935.52007)]. As a main result, the author proves that the \(L_p\)-intersection body of a centered convex body is convex. This is a counterpart to Busemann's theorem according to which the intersection body (obtained as the limit case \(p\to-1\)) of a centered convex body is convex. The proof is based on an extension of the Brunn-Minkowski theorem and of Brunn's theorem to \(p\)th moments.
