If \(\Sigma_d^i\), \(i=1,2\) are Hirzebruch surfaces with \(d_i\geq 0\) and \(S_i\subset\Sigma_d^i\)' are ample sections for the natural projections, \(\Sigma_d=\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^1}\oplus \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^1}(-d))\to \mathbb{P}^1\) then \(S_i^2>d_i\). \textit{V. I. Danilov} and \textit{M. H. Gizatullin} showed that if \(S_1^2=S_2^2\), then the surfaces \(V_i=\Sigma_d^i-S_i\) are isomorphic, independent of the sections and \(d_i\)s [Math. USSR, Izv. 11, 51--98 (1977; Zbl 0379.14002)]. (In fact, the results in the above mentioned paper are more general). In the paper under review, the authors give a simpler proof of this result, though as is usual, one has to keep track of various blowing ups and their exceptional curves.
