The aim of the paper is to describe a detail proof of the following statement: for any \(n\)-dimensional compact manifold there is a ``huge'' open subset \(U\) in \(C^\infty(V, \mathbb R^{n+k})\) such that for all \(f\in V\) the \(k\)-degree of \(f(V)\) is finite. In fact, it is a slightly strong version of a result by \textit{R. Thom} [Global Analysis, Papers in Honor of K. Kodaira 397--401 (1969; Zbl 0191.54601)] who gave a sketch of the proof only. The authors underline that the paper under review is an expanded version of a previous text by the second author.
