\textit{A. J. Hoffman} and \textit{H. W. Wielandt} [Duke Math. J. 20, 37--39 (1953; Zbl 0051.00903)] proved that if \(A\) and \(B\) are normal matrices of order \(n\) having the eigenvalues \(\alpha _1,\alpha _2,\dots ,\alpha _n\) and \(\beta _1,\beta _2,\dots ,\beta _n\) respectively, then there exists a permutation \(\pi\) of the indices \(1,2,\dots ,n\) such that \[ \sum_{i=1}^n|\alpha _i-\beta _{\pi (i)}|^2\leq \|A-B\|_F^2.\tag{1} \] \textit{W. Kahan} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 48, 11--17 (1975; Zbl 0322.15022)] proved this result when \(A\) is Hermitian and \(B\) is arbitrary. However, his bound in the right hand side of inequality (1) turns out to be \(2\|A-B\|_F^2.\) Then \textit{J.-g. Sun} [Linear Algebra Appl. 246, 215--223 (1996; Zbl 0867.15012)] proved this result when \(A\) is normal and \(B\) is arbitrary with bound \(n\|A-B\|_F^2\) in the right hand side of inequality (1). In this paper the authors prove corresponding results for conjugate normal matrices and coneigenvalues instead of eigenvalues, a less known concept. Theorem 5, Theorem 6, Theorem 7 and Theorem 8 are the main results.
