The authors develop a new iterative method for finding a simple root \(x^{\star}\) of a nonlinear equation \(f(x)=0\), where \(f:\mathbb{R}\supset D\rightarrow\mathbb{R}\) is a scalar function on an open interval \(D\). Their method is a three-step one based on the fourth-order modification of the Newton's method introduced by \textit{R. F. King} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 10, 876--879 (1973; Zbl 0266.65040)]. They prove that if \(f\in \mathsf{C}^2(D)\) and the initial point \(x_0\) is chosen sufficiently close to \(x^{\star}\), then the method has sixteenth-order convergence. Finally, they give some examples of numerical results.
